Teen Shot by Police During Welfare Check in Brisbane’s North
A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by police during a welfare check at a home in Arana Hills, located in Brisbane.
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday when three officers responded to concerns about the teenager’s wellbeing. During the encounter, the young man allegedly produced a large kitchen knife, prompting police to open fire.
The teenager was shot twice in the abdomen in front of his mother and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Authorities from Queensland Police Service are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, as is standard procedure in police-involved incidents. The case has raised questions about the handling of welfare checks and the use of force in potentially volatile domestic situations.
Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
